This project is special for me because it is a project I started during my Master degree in a group of two, which I then decided to take up again and move forward on my own years later. To start working in pairs, we had to find a subject. My classmate wanted to work on connected objects, and I had a subject close to my heart: the library.
To develop this topic, we carried out a lot of research and had many workshops during which we exchanged a lot with my partner and the teacher. We conducted a State of the Art to see what exists on the subject, as well as similar content organization systems.
There were also three presentation steps to evaluate the results.
Once the concept was in place, we had to think about developing the interface, how it would work, its added value, its usefulness, around our users: collectors. There are passionate profiles who want to get everything, admire their treasures, have them to hand, who are proud of what they own and who do so in a personal context for themselves. Sometimes, they like to present it to others, to share it and display it like a store window or an exhibition.
What was not easy was, during the workshops, we did not define a framework, but wanted to integrate all collections, no matter how unusual.
The end result was rather disappointing. As we had spent a lot of energy on researching and working on the interface, we were running out of time to finalize the prototype. So it was with some regret that this idea, which I had hoped to use, came to an end.
Of course, I would not have presented this project here if I had said my last word. Several years later, I decided to take up this project again and improve it, because the idea that I had is still close to my heart, but this time on my own, with a little experience and outside the school environment.
Firstly, this idea is better suited to use on mobile devices, since this is the most widely used medium these days, and correspond more closely to the need to act quickly on the interface and take it everywhere.
Secondly, I wanted to limit the application to a certain type of collection, to simplify its use and for ethical reasons, not to encourage fast-fashion consumption, for example. The themes of the collections will remain linked to multimedia, culture and art.
I reworked my sketches, taking inspiration from the applications I use. I thought about a way of functioning that seemed easy and practical to me, since I see myself as a user of this type of application. I redesigned the visual identity to be more accessible and cocooning, creating a logo of a cat with glasses, which fits well with the image of the library thanks to the calm it emanates.
